A Message from Chief Anthony Holt

On behalf of the Wayne State University Police Department, I would like to welcome you to the university and to our website. The Wayne State University community is a wonderful location for education, employment and entertainment.

Since its establishment in 1966, our department has endeavored to provide a safe and secure environment for the entire university community. Our officers are highly trained and fully licensed by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and are sworn peace officers under state law. Each WSUPD officer has also been commissioned as a Detroit police officer with full police authority within the city of Detroit. Our department has had a bachelor's degree requirement for all of our police officer applicants since its inception. We were the second department in the country to have this requirement. The Wayne State University Police Department's qualified staff provides the university community with police service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In providing a safe environment, the WSUPD has a cooperative working relationship with the Detroit Police Department, the Michigan State Police and other criminal justice entities, including federal law enforcement agencies. We take a community-oriented approach to law enforcement, knowing that partnerships and cooperation are needed to ensure protection of persons and property.

We value diversity and strive to treat everyone with respect and dignity. We want to provide professional, fair and impartial law enforcement service to the entire university community.

We hope the information provided in our website will be helpful. I encourage you to participate in making our campus safer. Please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions on how we can provide better police service, as well as any other questions or concerns.

Anthony Holt, Chief of Police
