Process for OneCard access to campus buildings

  1. Request a Card Key I.D.. Badge/Access Card Authorization Form from the department head of the building. Forms are also available at the Department of Public Safety records section Monday through Friday from  8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  2. Complete the Card Key I.D. Badge/Access Card Authorization Form. Be sure to provide all requested information. When the form is completed, submit to the authorizing department head.

  3. After the authorizing department head has signed the form, submit the form to the Department of Public Safety for processing.

  4. Forms submitted to the Department of Public Safety before 11 a.m. will be processed and ready for pickup after 1 p.m. Forms submitted after 11 a.m. will be processed and ready for pickup after 9 a.m. the following business day.

  5. Return to Public Safety with OneCard to be encoded.

  6. After OneCard is encoded, you will be issued a PIN that must be used to enter any building you are authorized to enter.

Process to add/change building access

  1. If you have already been issued a PIN from the Department of Public Safety, currently have authorized access to a building and wish to have access to another building, you must obtain permission from the department head of the building you wish to access.

  2. The department head can submit written verification to the records section supervisor via campus mail or email.

  3. Once the Department of Public Safety has received written verification from the authorizing department head, the new building will be added to the current record.

  4. Use the PIN previously issued by Public Safety to access the new building.

  5. If you do not remember your PIN, please contact the Department of Public Safety at 313-577-2056. Upon verification of personal information, the PIN may be reissued.

  6. If your OneCard has been replaced because it was lost, damaged or stolen, you must return to the Department of Public Safety to have the new OneCard encoded.

Terms and conditions

  • Your OneCard is the property of Wayne State University and is valid until your employment assignment or student status with the university is terminated, upon which your OneCard shall be surrendered to the issuing department.

  • Your OneCard is for your personal use only and is not transferable. Do not loan your card to anyone.

  • Only persons with an authorized access card or accompanied by an authorized cardholder are allowed to occupy card access buildings during times when the building is locked.

  • This access card must be physically displayed on outer clothing while in locked card access buildings, and/or the access cardholder shall be prepared to present this card for inspection by public safety officers upon demand.

  • If your OneCard be lost or stolen, please report the loss immediately to the OneCard office (7-CARD) and to Public Safety. The OneCard office may charge a replacement fee.

  • PINs shall not be written on the OneCard.

  • If you realize that you have set off an alarm, please call Public Safety immediately to report it.

  • Cardholders will not be routinely allowed access without their card.

  • At no time are exterior doors to university facilities allowed to be held open for longer than 25 seconds.

  • At no time are exterior doors to university facilities allowed to be propped open.

  • Violations of these cardholder rules may result in forfeiture of card access privileges and possible administrative action.

FAQ

  • I swiped my card, but I received a red light.

    Please double-check that you are using the correct PIN. Enter the PIN first, and then swipe the card. The tip of "Old Main" on the OneCard should point toward the reader. Be sure to swipe the card so the magnetic strip is inserted into the reader. If this problem persists, please contact the Department of Public Safety at 313-577-2056.

  • I swiped my card, but I received no light.

    Look at the magnetic strip on the back of the OneCard. If it looks worn out, please report to the OneCard office for a replacement. If you are using a replacement card, be sure to return it to the Department of Public Safety to have your card re-encoded. If this problem persists, please contact the Department of Public Safety at 313-577-2056.

  • If I get a new OneCard, will I still be able to use my PIN to get into the building?

    No. Once you receive your new OneCard, please go to the Department of Public Safety to have it re-encoded. After the OneCard is encoded, you may use your PIN to access the building.

  • Will I have to get a new PIN if my One Card is re-encoded?

    No. The buildings can be accessed using the old PIN.

  • Can I choose my own PIN?

    Yes. Please notify Records section personnel at 313-577-2056 with your PIN preference.
