Philosophy: Community policing
The Wayne State University Police Department is committed to creating a safe, productive environment for everyone who lives, works, and learns on and around campus. We do this by empowering and engaging our community, both at Wayne State and throughout Midtown.
This community centric approach is based upon a philosophy of providing full and personal police service and empowering Warriors to stay vigilant and safe — on campus, in the city and at home. We collaborate with the community to identify, prioritize and resolve problems that lead to crime, disorder and community decay, and offer the tools and training to stay aware, keep property secure and respond in the event of an emergency. Our goal is to engage all Warriors to improve the quality of life at Wayne State University.
This approach has led to the creation of one of the safest college campuses in the United States and contributed to Detroit's dramatic resurgence. Our Warriors feel confident and secure on campus and throughout the community, which has led to a vibrant, positive and welcoming atmosphere throughout Midtown and across the city.
