Steering Wheel and Bicycle Locks

Club steering wheel locks:   $13

According to the Michigan Auto Theft Prevention Authority, the state of Michigan ranks sixth in the nation for auto theft, with 21,157 vehicles stolen in 2015. Vehicle thefts in three Southeast Michigan counties (Wayne, Macomb and Oakland) account for approximately 74 percent of all the stolen vehicles in our state. Unfortunately, auto thefts can and do occur in and around our campus.

In an attempt to reduce your chances of becoming an auto theft victim anywhere in Southeast Michigan, WSUPD has partnered with Winner International Inc., manufacturers of the Club steering wheel lock. By way of Winner International's special program for law enforcement agencies, WSUPD obtains bulk shipments of Club twin-hook steering wheel locks at a deeply discounted price. We can then distribute these locks to our students, staff and faculty at that same deeply discounted price — currently $13 each. As part of our agreement with the manufacturer, WSUPD cannot make any profit from these distributions to our campus community. To date, WSUPD has distributed well over 4,000 Club steering wheel locks to our students, staff and faculty.

Club steering wheel locks can be obtained Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the WSU Police Department, located at 6050 Cass Avenue at Burroughs (two blocks north of the I-94/Ford Freeway.)  There is a limit of two (2) Clubs per person. Because WSUPD is not a retail sales operation, we do not have the equipment for credit, debit or OneCard swipe payments. We can accept cash (exact amount) or a personal check.

Club bicycle locks: $15

While many types of property theft have declined in recent years, bicycle theft is on the rise, according to FBI statistics. The increasing popularity of bicycling as a sport and a means of transportation has made bicycles an easy target for thieves. It is estimated that more than 1.5 million bicycles are stolen each year. Nowhere is bicycle theft a bigger problem than on college campuses. Experts advise that you should always secure your bike with a quality bike lock.

The WSUPD has a good supply of bike/utility bicycle locks. These locks are made by Winner International, the same manufacturer that makes the Club steering wheel lock, and WSUPD obtains them under the same discount program as the Club twin-hooks steering wheel locks.

The bike/utility lock is one of the toughest bike locks ever made and will allow you freedom and peace of mind knowing your bike is secure and will be there when you get back. The lock comes with three weather-resistant, European style, computer-cut laser encrypted keys with literally thousands of combinations, making it virtually impossible to pick. A steel gusset on the side of the lock housing prevents pipes from being used to pry the lock. This is the first fully adjustable bicycle lock that eliminates dead space within the lock; it is self-locking for quick and convenient installation without the key. Vinyl coating protects bicycle paint from scrapes and scratches. The Club locks for bikes and steering wheels can be obtained Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the WSU Police Department, located at 6050 Cass Avenue at Burroughs (two blocks north of the I-94/Ford Freeway.)  There is a limit of two (2) locks per person. Because the WSUPD is not a retail sales operation, we do not have the equipment for electronic credit, debit or OneCard swipe payments. We can only accept cash (exact amount) or a personal check, made payable to Wayne State Police for $15 per bike lock and $13 for the Club steering wheel lock.
